Medicaid Oral Proceeding

Posted over 5 years ago by Linda Watkins

Mississippi Division of  Medicaid has announced that it will have an oral hearing for Title 23: Meicaid, Part 209: Durable Medical Equipment, Medical Appliances and Medical Supplies, chaptepr 1: Durable Medical Equipemtn and Medical Appliances, Rule 1.35: Oxygen and Oxygen Related Equipment.

Meeting will be held 10/12/2018 at 10am in the Woolfolk Building, Room 145 located at 105 North West Street, Jackson, MS 3920.

Many Nurse Practitioners received a letter in May of this year about 42 CFR 440.70, stating that only medical supplies, equipment and appliances ordered by a physician are covered and reimbursed under the Medicaid programs.

We have been working diligently to correct this matterby changing the CMS language on a Federal Level as well as working with the Mississippi State Medicaid Office, but the government works slowly so we are using the Physician PMI numbers to order equipment under the Home Health category.  This hearing will not overturn that ruling.

I encourgage every NP in Mississippi to become involved in our profession, by participating in your state and national organizations as well as attending the oral hearings to become aware of actions that can be and have been taken that impacts our profession.

2019 is an election year but we will still persue Full Practice Authority in Mississippi by submitting a bill to the legislators.  Mississippians should have access to medical care and many nurse practitioners provide that care in Mississippi
